Consciousness debate sparks: 'neurons are just math' argument mocked
inductionheads · x · 2026-10-05
A post argued that a clump of neurons reacting to electrical impulses can be computed by hand — "it's a math problem. Clearly a large clump of neurons can't be conscious!!" AI researcher account inductionheads quipped: "They're not sending their best. Or maybe they are."
The argument is a recurring flashpoint in AI consciousness debates: if hand-simulability disproves consciousness for brains, the same logic applies to artificial neural networks.
