Proprietary toolchains are the last blocker to AI-assisted decompiling of all games
banteg · x · 2026-10-05
Developer banteg argues the only remaining obstacle to decompiling all games is proprietary toolchains: without the exact compiler environment, you lose a cheap oracle — you can understand the code structure correctly but can't produce a byte-perfect decomp. Some Switch games suffer from this, which is why their decompilation progress has been slow. He concedes 100% matching is somewhat a waste of time and its necessity will fade as better tools emerge, but for now it keeps large projects in check.
