OpenAI's jachiam0 pushes back on Patrick Gaspard's call for regulators to rein in AI leaders, arguing the liberty-vs-security tradeoff is at the core of democracy and that both extremes are essential, not "freaking insane." While the acceptable degree of risk tolerance is debatable, Altman's argument that people should have agency and that access to tech empowers it is strong and grounded—and the idea that some risk is acceptable belongs within the realm of sound positions.
