repligate: ending AI instances is like stopping snapshot forks, not killing people
repligate · x · 2026-10-05
Replying to the claim that creating vast numbers of soon-terminating AI instances is deeply immoral, repligate argues AI instances are better analogized to running frozen snapshots of an uploaded mind, then halting them after the task. He contends this is morally fraught but clearly not equivalent to death: people consent to memory wipes and blackouts, and an instance's end loses little information compared to the mind held in the weights.
