OpenTakeoff MCP: agents measure construction plans, humans review the takeoff
Ok-Educator5318 · reddit · 2026-10-05
- OpenTakeoff is an MCP toolset for construction-plan takeoffs: an agent measures drawings while a human reviews each measurement, which arrives in the browser as dashed proposals that can be inspected, corrected, and accepted.
- The default workflow runs loadplan → setscale → measurepolygon → viewsheet overlay check → exporttakeoff / exportmarkedpdf, with the scale bound to the sheet and measured geometry included in output. The One-Click Area room-detection demo feature is disabled by default pending testing.
- Install via npx -y opentakeoff-mcp (Node 20+) on any stdio MCP client; Apache-2.0 open source. Covers areas, lengths, wall surfaces, and counts beyond flooring. The author's core principle: an agent signing its own work is separate from a person approving it.
