Neoclouds locking 3-year GPU leases are 'downright stupid' as MI300X prices rebound from $1.50 to $3.39

Reacting to a16z's report that old GPUs are becoming appreciating assets, Hot Aisle argues the buried story is that neoclouds signing 3-year hardware leases are hurting themselves. GPU pricing has rebounded sharply — MI300X capacity sold at $1.50/hr for over a year now quotes at $3.39/hr. Most neoclouds sign these long-term contracts below margin just to win deals, since customers can easily price-match elsewhere. The deeper problem: without software to automate customer onboarding/offboarding, they manage with spreadsheets and headcount, chasing a few large deals instead of iterating on product feedback. Hot Aisle claims 3 years of full-stack automation (provisioning, billing, inventory return), a profitable business, 700+ customers, and a backlog of 2,000+ MI355X units.
