SPOPI: a fully local, offline Pi GUI that Pi itself can edit live, built on Tauri 2
spongioblast · reddit · 2026-10-05
A developer released SPOPI, a GUI around the AI coding tool Pi built on the idea that Pi itself can perceive and modify the UI in real time.
Design
- Electron GUIs bundle their UI, so Pi can't change it without a rebuild; SPOPI uses Tauri 2 with Rust for files/Git/terminal, and the UI is plain JavaScript in the OS's own webview — ask Pi for a new layout, color, button or extension support and it edits the app live
- Fully local, fully offline, no telemetry
Features
- Leverages the Pi ecosystem: per-turn undo, diagnostics, subagents, worktrees come from Pi packages, not its own code; terminal and GUI share settings, packages and sessions so tasks carry over
- Editor with previews, terminal, Git, Ctrl+K in-place edits, clickable file links in chat, per-turn diff undo, chat forking
- Pi checks its own work (project check plus bundled browser), subagents get their own tabs, local models via vLLM/LM Studio are detected with usage measured
- Phone access on the same network
Tested on Windows and Ubuntu; macOS builds are untested. Repo: github.com/spongioblast/spopi
