Robin Hanson: computers truly compute on symbols, brains do process information
ctjlewis · x · 2026-10-05
Economist Robin Hanson argued that computers genuinely operate on symbolic representations of the world, storing, retrieving and processing under algorithms, while humans "never did, never will". He then rebutted the implied claim by noting neurons receive signals, change state and send signals out — which is signal processing, and signals are information, so brains do process information.
