AI circle's contempt culture: rejecting experts without reading their arguments
RileyRalmuto · x · 2026-10-05
The author worries about a growing culture in AI discourse where people express blind contempt for serious thinkers like Yudkowsky without first understanding their arguments, mistaking their own failure to see an argument's depth for proof it has none. While expertise should always be questioned, meaningful disagreement requires humility and genuine engagement — losing the willingness to be taught, and celebrating that loss as intellectual independence, undermines the very conditions that let society accumulate knowledge.
