12 years ago robots already built structures while climbing them: the termite-inspired Science 2014 paper
tomssilver · x · 2026-10-05
This week's #PaperILike is "Designing Collective Behavior in a Termite-Inspired Robot Construction Team" (Werfel et al., Science 2014). The paper demonstrated decentralized robot teams that climb the very structure they are building to extend it — a landmark in collective construction robotics, 12 years ago. Video and PDF are linked, and it remains a useful reference for today's embodied multi-agent research.
