AI is software, not the math: scholar argues simulation can't become the object
gerardsans · x · 2026-10-05
In an X exchange with @robkoons, gerardsans argues that addition as a mathematical object is not the same as the software algorithm executing it—usually only a sliced version fitting hardware limits. He proposes a simpler ontology: AI is software, which can simulate mathematical objects but never become them, like a recipe vs the omelette. Pi's infinite decimals, he notes, always escape the simulation.
