Running Multiple Coding Agents in Parallel: Three Operational Fixes Worth Copying
Aggressive-Narwhal-3 · reddit · 2026-10-04
A developer running several coding agents at once — an orchestrator dispatching work to sessions on a Mac and two Windows PCs — shares three fixes from today:
- Don't rely on status files alone: a build agent finished all 74/74 tasks but only wrote its done line in chat, not the status file the watcher reads, going unnoticed for 25 quiet minutes. Now silent sessions get their last message read, not just the status file.
- Never wait on human login steps: a docs agent sat 2 hours waiting on a passkey login no machine could complete. Replaced with a local render check (3/3 diagrams, 0 errors); briefs now explicitly forbid waiting on human logins.
- Handoff files over long sessions: at 89% context, the agent wrote an 11 KB handoff file (role, rules, paths, open items); a fresh session resumed at 11% context.
The takeaway: mostly it's about finding places where the setup assumed something would happen — and it didn't.
