Why skipping PR reviews with AI works: model capability, token budget, and human direction
dotey · x · 2026-10-04
Responding to the buzz around skipping PR reviews with a Claude Skill, the author—who also reviews almost none of his many daily PRs—says don't copy the practice before understanding its prerequisites:
- Model capability and cost: AI code only became trustworthy once top-tier models arrived. He personally pays for two Claude Max 20x accounts; employees at big companies don't worry about token spend. Frontier model pricing may become broadly affordable within six months.
- AI verification isn't complete: even with computer-use beyond human level, verification can only be partially delegated; turn repetitive manual checks into Skills and automation scripts.
- Humans own direction: complex software can't come from a single prompt—someone must decompose work, set milestones, verify, and course-correct. As models improve, the bottleneck shifts to articulating what you actually want.
He also cautions against blindly adopting others' Skills instead of building your own workflow.
