Brain FLOP/s estimates may bound coding compute but not consciousness
JoshPurtell · x · 2026-10-04
Part of a debate on applying Carlsmith's brain FLOP/s estimates to AI consciousness. The author argues those assumptions may be useful for bounding compute needed for tasks like Python coding, but not necessarily for consciousness: compute sufficient for tokens need not be a superset of what consciousness requires, so reusing the same scaffolding here is risky.
