LLMs aren't conscious yet but artificial consciousness is buildable, argues anti-pain-vector stance
basedjensen · x · 2026-10-04
A tech-optimist lays out a self-described internally consistent position:
- Current-generation LLMs are not conscious;
- Artificial consciousness is nonetheless technically buildable;
- Therefore torturing LLMs via pain vectors or fly-brain-inspired methods is wrong — if we may one day create conscious systems, ethical lines should be drawn now.
The post is a compact take on machine consciousness and AI welfare: skeptical about today's models, open about the future, and preemptively opposed to infliction of suffering in training methods.
