Mediabunny's seeking logic wins praise for fixing Chrome's broken variable-frame-rate playback
Vjeux · x · 2026-10-04
Developer hirbod hit a nasty issue: his recorder only saves frames when the screen changes, producing heavily variable frame rates that Safari and QuickTime play fine but Chrome chokes on — stutters, freezes, and skipped animation. Re-encoding to a constant frame rate fixed it completely.
This led him to champion Mediabunny, vanilagy's browser-side media processing library, whose seeking logic he calls best-in-class for handling even the weirdest files. The official site now ships a fully custom Mediabunny-powered player demo (local files and remote URLs). Vjeux also endorsed the take.
