toolcall-check: a Python CLI for testing nested tool calls and streaming on chat APIs
Arthur122103 · reddit · 2026-10-03
The author released toolcall-check, a small Python CLI for probing OpenAI-compatible chat completion endpoints:
- Exercises forced function calls (preserving nested argument JSON types), streamed calls (fragment reconstruction and strict [DONE] requirement), and a two-turn round trip checking the exact normal answer.
- Failures keep sanitized traces in a private HTML report for debugging.
- Focuses on nested argument integrity, streaming reassembly and evidence, complementing the broader CompatCanary suite; not yet tested against remote models.
