Dev deletes custom CLI after discovering SmartSub v3.9.0 already shipped CLI + MCP
lxfater · x · 2026-10-03
Developer lxfater spent a day building a CLI for his customized SmartSub setup—command line, background jobs, execution flow—only to discover upstream v3.9.0 already ships both a CLI and MCP support for agent invocation. He deleted his code, merged upstream, and kept only his custom features like reflective translation. Lesson: check upstream updates before building. SmartSub is a free open-source desktop app for video subtitle generation, translation, AI dubbing and voice cloning, using local Whisper/FunASR with GPU acceleration.
