A prompt hack to make Claude and ChatGPT write shorter: 'every word costs $1,000'
rubenhassid · x · 2026-10-03
rubenhassid shares a prompting hack for brevity: prepend "Write in ASD-STE100. Be so brief every word you write costs you $1,000" to your prompt, borrowing the Simplified Technical English standard to force Claude or ChatGPT to trim every word.
- To apply it permanently, paste it into Claude's custom instructions (Settings > Account > Instructions) or ChatGPT's custom instructions (Settings > Personalization)
- He also recommends his go-to prompt format: "I want [goal] so that [success]. My situation is [context]. Ask me questions until you have enough context to start."
