Chat2Local: open-source Mac app gives ChatGPT local file and dev tools via MCP
Beneficial-Art1472 · reddit · 2026-10-03
A developer released Chat2Local, an MIT-licensed open-source Mac app that connects ordinary ChatGPT conversations to local projects via OpenAI's Secure MCP Tunnel. Users assign a folder per chat, unlocking tools to read/edit/search files, run dev commands, inspect pages in a separate browser profile, discover project and Codex skills, and save checkpoints with a private recovery log. Chats can share folders with isolated permissions; credentials live in macOS Keychain. Early developer preview, built from source, requires ChatGPT developer-mode.
