louisvarge · x · 2026-10-03
Developer louislva open-sourced sol (MIT license), a "Google Maps for the galaxy" rendering the solar system and Milky Way in 2D to scale with a flat design. It includes every planet, moon, asteroid, comet, almost every spacecraft, and nearby stars. All positions come from published data: NASA JPL Horizons and the Small-Body Database, NAIF planetary constants, CelesTrak, SIMBAD, IAU WGSN, and Reid et al. 2019 for the Milky Way's spiral arms. Live at sol.louisarge.com; runs locally with npm install / npm run dev.
