Coding Agents Love Decision Records: Why ADRs Are the Missing Project Memory
rseroter · x · 2026-10-03
An O'Reilly article by Duncan Davidson argues that Architectural Decision Records (ADRs) give coding agents durable project context. Agents have narrow codebase views and short memories; explicit decision records let them understand intent instead of doing code archaeology. But agents may adhere to recorded decisions more rigidly than humans, so ADRs should stay lean and current rather than becoming courtroom transcripts.
