Dev argues AI is great at assets and code but bad at designing game mechanics that feel good
rms80 · x · 2026-10-03
Developer pvncher argues that good AAA games require talented people making thousands of tiny design decisions. AI models excel at asset construction and writing code, but are poor at designing new mechanics and making them feel good in your hands. You can iterate with models to build decent-feeling mechanics, but shipping a campaign with good writing and surprises remains very hard.
He believes the long tail of automating the creation of good art worth experiencing is further out than 3D-generation progress suggests, adding that most gamers actually have awful game design taste.
