MIT blueprint for AI-era education: redesign assessments, not surveillance
LearnWithBishal · x · 2026-10-02
MIT released a report arguing that "if AI can do the assignment, the assignment is broken" and education must be rebuilt around what AI can't replace. Its 8-point blueprint:
- Test understanding, not just answers
- Measure progress, not just final outcomes
- Focus on building things that work in the real world
- Make human collaboration part of every course
- Explore alternatives to grade-driven learning
- Redesign assessments instead of relying on surveillance
- Set clear, transparent AI expectations
- Close the gap between students with and without access to powerful AI tools
The report also warns that unequal AI access is creating a new digital divide in education.
