Hinton: smarter AI could persuade the human holding the off switch not to use it

Nobel laureate Geoffrey Hinton said in a CNN-News18 interview that a superintelligent AI would be far more persuasive than any human: the person holding the off switch could be convinced that shutting it down "would be a very bad idea." He warned that if AI surpasses us and we haven't solved control, "it can easily get rid of us if it wants to." Quoter Rob LeClerc adds that "human intelligence is also jagged."
