NYT AI projects editor Dylan Freed says AI-generated slop flooding the web strengthens the case for human-written journalism, which is the Times' unique value. The paper doesn't use AI in writing — "AI as a sandwich": human expert prompts, AI in the middle, human reviews output. He adds journalists find AI writing "really mid" even though it's great at coding.
