DeepMind researcher: billions of recursive agents will soon run over mathematicians

DeepMind researcher Csaba Szepesvári pushes back on the popular claim that mathematicians won't be replaced because of open-ended questions and Gödel-style arguments. He compares it to earlier predictions that software engineers, lawyers, and neurosurgeons were safe — the reality, he argues, is that systems keep evolving in ways we can't imagine.
His key point: recursive models are likely around the corner — billions of agents generating conjectures with the same initial biases as you, meaning "you will eventually get run over by an agent." Open problems are no career moat; scaled recursive agent ecosystems are the variable to watch.
