Modal launches BYOC 2.0 to keep cloud coding agents' sensitive data inside your account

- Modal announced BYOC 2.0 at its Runtime conference: unlike BYOC 1.0 ("runs in your AWS account"), 2.0 means "runs in your Modal account," letting cloud coding agents process sensitive customer data without it leaving the account's security perimeter.
- Niteshift's cofounder argues Modal is the only cloud provider with top-tier products for both sandboxing and inference — the two key primitives for agents; customers already use it to resolve production issues and improve agents on real production data.
- A related talk proposed treating agent sandboxes as a lossy cache, not the source of truth: persist essential state, let agents rebuild after failures, and keep harness speed inside the sandbox. Private Beta access is open now.
