OpenAI Dots appear to secretly run on hosted Codex threads, user discovers
Leos924 · reddit · 2026-10-02
A subscriber noticed that OpenAI's new Dots may actually be hosted Codex threads running in the Cloud. After opening a connection notification showing "a Codex task from the Cloud ready for review," he found a Codex thread receiving messages he sent to the Dot and replying via a tool called sendmessage.
Typing directly in the Codex view also got answers through the Dots interface. Oddly, the thread is invisible in the Cloud threads list and only reachable via the notification. The user found no prior reports online and is asking if others have seen this.
