Sentry's open-source coding agent Junior plans plan-first mode for complex feature work

David Cramer (zeeg), Sentry co-founder, shares where his open-source coding agent "Junior" is headed: building a "software factory" to prove where such pipelines break down. GitHub issue #1998 details a plan-first coding epic:
- Currently a coding request goes straight from investigation to edits and a draft PR, with no default step to align on a plan, confirm scope, or track progress.
- Profiles only pick a model — no per-profile prompt rules, tools, skills, or workflows.
- Coding context doesn't carry across turns: multi-turn flows like plan → user answers → implement get re-routed at every step, so a short "yes, go" can land on the wrong profile.
- Core prompts push toward acting immediately instead of planning.
The goal: make Junior reliable on complicated feature work by producing trackable plans and confirming scope before editing.
