Measured: SuperGrok coding subscription buys 190x its price in API usage vs Claude Max's 45x
PawelHuryn · x · 2026-10-02
Pawel Huryn ran "subscription multiplier" experiments: deliberately burning slices of each AI coding subscription's weekly allowance, logging every model call, and pricing them at the vendor's public API list price. Multiplier = monthly allowance's API cost ÷ subscription price.
Results:
- SuperGrok (Grok 4.7 / Grok Build CLI, $30/mo): 190x (±21, range across image and text workloads)
- Muse Code Power Usage (Spark 1.3, $50/mo): 137x (±15, derived, not measured)
- Muse Code High Usage ($15/mo): 114x (±12)
- Claude Max 20x (Opus 5.5 / Claude Code, $200/mo): 45.3x (±1.0)
Cheaper tiers pack far larger implicit discounts, though multipliers vary notably by workload. Scripts and logs are open-sourced in the phuryn/experiments GitHub repo.
