Researcher Mocks 'TESCREAL' as Useless Acronym for AI Debate Factions
jankulveit · x · 2026-10-02
Researcher Jan Kulveit satirized the popular 'TESCREAL' concept, arguing it is about as useful for understanding AI debates as coining an 'IPATMAT' acronym (Israelis, Palestinians, Arabs, Turks, Muslims, Americans, Tasmanians) would be for understanding Middle East conflicts — lumping mutually contradictory positions into a single 'ideology' to blame.
He also notes the C in TESCREAL stands for Cosmism, usually a 19th-century Russian philosophy largely absent from current AI debates, included mostly to make the acronym sound better.
