Harvard physicist uses Claude to link physics calculations to ecology, genetics

In a guest post on Anthropic's Science Blog, Harvard physicist Matthew Schwartz argues LLMs suffer an "impedance mismatch" with science: they're capable, but treating them like human collaborators doesn't best elicit their scientific strengths. He built a toolkit for exact quantitative-science calculations, and Claude surfaced connections to ecology, population genetics and a dozen other fields, which he then steered with domain experts.
