Developer recreates Project Hail Mary's stellar map in JavaScript with AI
mhmazur · x · 2026-10-01
Developer mhmazur rewatched Project Hail Mary, photographed the stellar map UI shown on the ship, and worked with AI (Astra) to build a similar interactive JavaScript version, now live on Emergent Mind Labs.
The map uses the J2000 star catalog, supports drag-to-rotate and scroll-to-travel, includes object telemetry (distance, light travel time), logarithmic scale, and elevation profiles. Zooming far enough out reveals Tau Ceti, where most of the movie takes place, and the 40 Eridani system where the character Rocky comes from.
