An AI-industry controversy around lobbying group Leading The Future (LTF): per Teddy Schleifer citing Slack messages obtained by the NYT, OpenAI president Greg Brockman said he feels terrible about LTF becoming a distraction and that the company has donated $25M so far with no plans to give more.
Researcher S Ó hÉigeartaigh said he was targeted by what appeared to be LTF's paid sock puppet accounts and thanked OpenAI researchers who pushed back, adding that the OpenAI individuals he has interacted with have been reasonable and genuinely well-motivated.
