Internal evals may become a company's most valuable AI asset

A widely shared take argues internal evals will become one of the most valuable AI assets a company owns, because a good evaluation captures what doing the job correctly actually means—including exceptions experienced staff spent years learning.
- Coding agents have an edge: software teams already have tests, build systems and code review that give agents feedback to improve on
- Taking agents into operations, finance or customer service requires building equivalents: did the agent apply the right refund policy? Match payments to the correct account? Recognize exceptions needing human approval?
- Consistent answers need real cases, operator-agreed correct outcomes, and an environment where the agent can attempt the work
