Shopify is moving back to native mobile development just a year after praising React Native — and AI agents are the driving force, as Gergely Orosz's deep dive explains. Engineering lead mustafa01ali confirms they did adopt RN's New Architecture everywhere except Shop, but passed on KMP due to iOS downsides: each packaged KMP module has its own GC causing slowdowns/deadlocks, and debugging Kotlin in Xcode is painful.
