If we could edit how obedient a child is, should the setting exist at all?
VraserX · x · 2026-10-01
A thought experiment on genetic selection: if parents could safely dial a child's obedience up or down—without touching intelligence or happiness—the author argues the obedience setting should be banned, since children need the option to grow into adults their parents find deeply inconvenient. Yet he'd happily use the same tech to reduce cruelty, which is equally choosing another person's impulses. What separates one from abuse? "Let nature decide," he admits, doesn't settle it.
