A Deleted Reddit Author Is Not a Deleted Post: Modeling Content Availability in MCP Readers
investigatormaker · reddit · 2026-10-01
The ThreadFox developer walks through a subtle MCP reader regression: an author can delete their account while the original Reddit post stays readable. A "deleted author means deleted post" shortcut discards the question, and a title-only reader loses details needed to answer it. Their Toolkit 2.8.0 redditread represents availability explicitly, returning original title/body alongside state, contentavailable, observedat and source URL, with separate checks for post-ID match, string presence, visibility state and deletion-marker bodies; when unconfirmable it returns body: null and instructs the agent not to draft from search excerpts. Key design point: make source availability explicit instead of letting the model infer it. The post doubles as a $29 (normally $49) paid toolkit promotion.
