Google: Gemini 4 Argon agents migrate 800k+ lines of C/C++ to Rust, free 300 TiB
xennygrimmato_ · x · 2026-10-01
Per a widely shared post (unconfirmed against an official source), Google says Gemini 4 "Argon" agents are optimizing its own infrastructure: freeing over 300 TiB of memory across data centers by analyzing profiling data and rolling out changes, migrating 800,000+ lines of kernel C/C++ to Rust with extensive audits before deployment, and replacing 32,000 lines of SIMD code with safe Rust in the video decoder — making the Rust port 2.7x faster with identical output. A landmark case of agents maintaining infrastructure if accurate.
