In Lecture 1 of CS287, Pieter Abbeel showed a striking 2008 video of a robot cleaning a home like a human—but it was teleoperated. The lesson: sensors and actuators were already there back then; what was missing was the controllers (autonomy). That has now changed with modern AI.
