The Symbiotic Interfaces Lab at UT Austin CS (PI Yudai Tanaka) is recruiting 2-3 funded PhD students for Fall 2027; applications are due Dec 15.
The lab's HCI research builds interfaces coupled with human neural processes: dexterous tactile feedback, muscle sensing/stimulation to accelerate voluntary actions (Myo Action, CHI 2026), and non-invasive brain stimulation for full-body feedback. Tanaka is a 2025 Google PhD Fellow and Siebel Scholar with multiple CHI/UIST papers.
