Architect's take: AI agents are making your app's frontend UI optional

Richard Seroter (Google Cloud) argues the era of forcing users to learn bespoke app interfaces—334 apps on his phone alone—is ending as AI agents take over. Users want the data and function, not the UI.
Core argument: go headless. Developers should:
- Expose capabilities anywhere: build CLIs, APIs, skills, and MCP servers so agents and super-apps (Gemini, Claude Cowork, etc.) can call them directly; crawling your DOM wastes tokens and time. Salesforce, Box, and HubSpot have already shipped headless experiences via an Anthropic partnership, and Google released an Android CLI usable in any harness.
- Three developer (or agent) activities: expose data and commands, let agents complete tasks, deliver functionality to whatever surface users are on.
Conclusion: stop stacking static frontends; open your capabilities in agent-friendly ways instead.
