Developer builds AI relationship coach Agent Eros and invites Reddit to argue against it

An app developer posted a long Reddit thread on Agent Eros, an AI relationship coaching platform now in open beta, honestly laying out both sides of the debate.
The case against: AI has no lived experience of relationships; it can be confidently wrong or sycophantic; fragile users might lean on it instead of a therapist; advice quality is bounded by the user's self-flattering story.
The rebuttal: not feeling something isn't the same as not understanding it — attachment theory, Gottman's conflict research, and decades of relational psychology are well documented, and frontier models handle structured frameworks well. The author argues this only became feasible after April 2025's frontier model advances.
Design choices: accumulates personal history and patterns over time; built around the relationship rather than winning for the user; teaches skills instead of issuing directives; positioned as a complement between therapy sessions, not a replacement. An interesting side effect: manipulative behavior depends on nobody naming it, so a tool that surfaces relationship dynamics works against narcissists and manipulators.
