Cohere Labs published research on the Agentic Task Ecosystem (ATE), analyzing tool descriptions bottom-up to understand how agentic capabilities map onto human work.

- Categories emerged that don't fit existing taxonomies of work
- The largest category is existing human work described at a finer grain: occupational databases lump tasks like "maintain configuration control," while real tools split this into separate functions for reading, writing, validating, and rolling back configs
