Runway Cofounder Marks 8 Years With a Story of Three "Tenacity" Pens

Runway cofounder Cristóbal Valenzuela reflects on eight years since founding: at the start he bought three heavy steel pens engraved with "tenacity," one for each cofounder. What they've spent years building now "seems to be moving together more naturally" — customers who once asked them to prove it now just ask for it, and last year's sleep-killing problems are forgotten. It will get hard again, he writes, "which is probably why I bought the pens in the first place." A few refills later, the pen on his desk is still the same one.
