"Pure product design is over": designers must become end-to-end operators as models catch up

A widely shared post argues "pure product design is over": AI models will eventually match or beat today's top designers. They aren't there yet in many areas but are already close — better than some mid/junior designers — though someone who understands the craft is still needed to steer direction. That, the author says, is why so much mediocre output is shipping lately: people who don't know better are shipping slop.
Since models will eventually steer just as well, designers must learn the product design process end to end and become operators — what the "member of technical staff" title represents. Learn to ship from beginning to end, and just ask the model when stuck.
