timm adds multi-label classification support, still useful as a benchmark
wightmanr · x · 2026-09-30
timm, the widely used vision model library, now supports multi-label classification. Author Ross Wightman polished up an implementation he had abandoned on top of his Task refactor at the end of last year.
He jokes that it's 2026 and wonders who cares, but argues it remains quite useful — especially as a benchmark. He has been exploring the multi-label / long-tail problem with modest-sized encoder-decoder and encoder-encoder (contrastive) VLMs.
