NetWasm compiles C# to a standalone 84 KB WebAssembly component with runtime and GC
shauntrennery · x · 2026-09-29
NetWasm is an independent .NET implementation built for WebAssembly, billed as "the new Mono."
- Compiles the reachable Cprogram into one standalone Wasm Component (demo: 84,513 bytes uncompressed) including the runtime and a precise GC—no CLR, Mono runtime, dotnet.js, or app DLLs.
- Pipeline: Roslyn emits CIL, NetWasm AOT-compiles it, specializes generics, and links only used runtime support.
- Avoids AOT trimming traps: JSON, Regex, DI, and structured logging generate compiler-visible code, no trim annotations needed.
- C15 support, five dev hosts (Linux x64/ARM64, macOS ARM64, Windows x64/ARM64), and a browser playground that compiles in-browser.
