Dev Seeks Local LLM Stack to Reverse Old Game Client, Hits Safety Guardrails
danielfrances · reddit · 2026-09-29
A developer is building a local server for an old online game client and needs to reverse-engineer lots of packets and client functions. Fable helped at first, but deeper into the project he keeps hitting safety guardrails, so he's moving to a local setup.
His hardware is an RTX 4060 Ti (16GB VRAM) plus 128GB DDR4, and he's fine with slow, all-day runs or paying for hosted stronger models. He mainly wants to know which models, harnesses and tools to use to accurately recover client functions.
